I didn’t grow up interested in long range shooting, though it was cool when Mathew Quigly (Tom Selleck Movie) went down under and shot a bucket three times at 800 yards from a standing position.  When I was coming up we hardly would have an opportunity to shoot more than a couple hundred yards when hunting.  We didn’t use range finders or worry about bullet drops and the info on the ammunition box was just cool to know.

Fast forward and I’ve hit targets as far as ¾ of a mile shooting with good bench shooters and their high-end chassis builds.  While these chassis are cool, they’re purpose built for long range precision but I wouldn’t want to lug one of those around in the field.  One thing several of the guys had in common was they hunted with Seekins Precision rifles and just like that I knew I had to get my hands on one.

Seekins Precision started out in 2004 building have always had a mission of precision, accuracy, and quality and you can see that in all the products they offer.  I got a Havak PH2 in 7PRC in their Mountain Shadow color pattern this spring and have impressed with it from the moment I shouldered it.

You can tell that Seekins put a lot of thought behind this rifle other than its looks to increase its performance and the user’s experience.  When you shoulder the rifle, it just feels right, it is light at 7.2lbs and has a higher cheek comb with a cutout to allow the bolt to fully open.  The grip has an aggressive angle that gives you the ability to pull the rifle secure to your shoulder.  The trigger is crisp and you can tell the difference as soon as you pull the adjustable 2.5lb – 5lb Timney Elite Hunter trigger.

The bolt has a 90-degree easy to throw bolt throw.  The bolt has an M16 style extractor for increased reliability and smoother feeding especially on magnum bolt faces.  You can also assemble/disassemble the bolt without a tool and tucked in right under the bolt is a three round carbon fiber magazine.  Topped with a 20 MOA Picatinny rail and  5/8 x 24 threads on the end of the 416 stainless steel barrel so this rifle is optic and suppressor (or muzzle break) ready!

Setting it up and the Shooting

I outfitted my rifle with a Vortex Razor HD LHT 4.5–22 x 50 FFP scope and a Diligent Defense titanium suppressor.  I got some Remington CuT tipped copper ammo and hit the range.  After getting the rifle zeroed and getting the ammo input in my ballistics app including chrono info, we started stretching the PH2’s legs.  We got the rifle all the way out to 1,050 yds with consecutive hits.  I never thought I’d have a hunting rifle shooting factory ammo that shoots like this.  If you’re looking for a precision rifle that will stand the test of time and have a lifetime warranty, check out Seekins Precision and see what you think.
