Saskatchewan - Bone Quest Outfitters

Bone Quest Outfitters

Our team is dedicated to providing not only the best whitetail deer hunting, or the best black bear hunting, but the best experience at any Canadian hunting lodge. Each member of our team has an extremely hard work ethic contributing to the success our clients have in the field year after year, and the enjoyment they have at camp making the overall experiences one not to be forgotten.

It is our mission to earn your business and have repeat customers return year after year. You may show up as a customer but you will be leaving as a friend.

The perfect black bear territory

We are located on the edge of the local farmlands, where tended fields give way to the vast and dense boreal forest. This is where the game population thrives thanks to their ease of access to ample amounts of forage in the summer and fall.

The home of giant black bears and color phase bears

In the spring black bear season, we target the pre-rut on into the full rut period. It is our experience that this is when the big old giant black bears pop out in the area, we are
confident that you too can bag a winner.

In combination with a great population of giant black bears we also have a dense population of color phase bears. In fact, we would not be exaggerating by saying color phase bears in our area would run right around twenty percent of
the total population.

A Typical Day In The Camp

Morning to Early Afternoon

Wake up to a continental-style breakfast. Enjoy spending the morning fishing, shooting on our archery course or lounging.

Mid Afternoon

We serve a large mid-afternoon meal to see you through the evening hunt. After your meal has settled, we load into the guides’ pickups, and head for the Saskatchewan woods.

Evening to Late Night

Spend the evening hunting, after which you can expect to return to a spread of hot food fit for a king. Share your stories of the hunt while our expert guide team skins your trophy.

Transportation

Our modes of transportation vary based on the location of the most active stands. UTV, ATV and/or argo’s are used to access our various stand locations.

Communication

You will be given a communication device allowing you to contact our guide team in the event of a bear down, or in the event of an emergency. Unless you contact your guide early, pickup will be just after legal light.

Accomodations

Our spacious accommodations located on the edge of the endless wilderness offer each hunter their own bedroom with easy access to the bathrooms. In combination with the privacy of your own bedroom, we have a large common lounging, dining and television room. You’ll be treated to delicious hot meals created by chef Adam before and after your days hunt.

Alexis Desjardins is a long time member of the Manitoba Lodge and Outfitters Association and is a proud sponsor on Bowsite.com. He has had many years of experience guiding & hunting black bear, deer, moose, elk and fishing throughout Manitoba. Through out the years he has gained an extensive knowledge of the bears seasonal travel patterns, living and eating habits.

The area that we hunt is located on the Northeast side Bordering Riding Mountain National Park. This area is known worldwide for its tremendous trophy potential and also for the high percentage of color phase bears that it produces. It also has one of the highest Black Bear densities in North America. Here you can hunt spring or fall with your choice of rifle, bow, or black powder. We also have fishing close by.

Manitoba - Canadian Wilderness Outfitters

Canadian Wilderness Outfitters

Canadian Wilderness Outfitters

The best bear hunting in Canada is with the Canadian Wilderness Outfitters. The Canadian Wilderness Outfitters have been hunting bear in the Duck Mountains of Manitoba since 1996. The dense forested areas and rich agricultural land of the Swan River Valley provide the habitat and food source required to hunt the biggest trophy bears in Manitoba. If you’re looking to hunt trophy black bear or trophy brown bear, this is the Manitoba bear hunt for you.

SPRING OR FALL BEAR HUNT?

We hunt from mid May to Mid June then again end of August to mid September. When is the best time? Depends on your schedule & what you want in a bear. There is no size difference between a Spring bear skull and a Fall bear skull. However, there are major seasonal differences in weight and fur conditions. A bear can emerge in the Spring from its winter den weighing 30% less than it did in the Fall. While a bear dens he is living off his fat reserve. It is essential that during the Fall prior to denning a bear must gorge himself to put on all this extra weight. Therefore, that Fall bear can be huge due to this massive weight gain. Fur conditions also vary from season to season. Most hunters believe a bear’s fur is finest soon after den emergence in the Spring. That is when the guard hairs are the longest & the under fur the thickest. It is during the Spring that hunters must look at the condition of the fur carefully before shooting. Bears will scratch & rub themselves to help shed this heavy coat of fur leaving rubbed marks. A hunter may see a bear that has bare patches on their hind quarters or behind their front shoulders. A Fall bear fur will be sleek, dense, & shiny with no rubs. The benefit of being able to "look a bear over" while on a bait is that you can observe for the quality of the fur.

Manitoba Black Bears can come in "color phase" of brown, cinnamon and chocolate colors and as light as blonde.

Bear hunting requires some knowledge of bears, so we try our best to educate our hunters about judging bears for size, fur quality and sex. When you arrive we have "Bear School" where we discuss methods of baiting, hunting, recovering bears, our routine and the reasons for it, usual bear activity, how to judge bears, and most important the killing shot.

 Routine:

  1. Breakfast: Anytime
  2. Recovering Bears, Skinning Bears, Preparing Baits
  3. Lunch: Meal at Camp or Bagged Lunch to bring with you to the stand
  4. Leave Camp: Between 2pm-4pm
  5. Hunters settle into their stands: Between 4pm-5pm
  6. Hunt: Until dark which is around 10pm-11pm
  7. Back to camp and a meal: 12am

We access our areas by truck, quads and walking. Our stands are about 12-16 feet off the ground, or ground blinds that are between 10-75 yards from the bait depending upon what weapon you are shooting; gun or bow.

We try to obey good hunting principles of keeping scent to a minimum.  Our wilderness tent camp is at the base of the North slope of the Duck Mountains. We utilize canvas tents with hard floors & walls, bunk beds with good mattresses, rifle and archery range with meals in the main tent cabin.

Bear Hunts

Baldy Mountain Outfitters is located in the Duck Mountains of Manitoba, Canada and is one of the Hot Spots in North America for hunting trophy-size and color phase black bears including chocolate, cinnamon and blonde. This rolling, forested land is filled with lakes, swamps and streams and known for consistently producing high numbers of bears as well as bears with record dimensions. It also holds some of the highest color phase ratios in Canada. Baldy Mountain Outfitters has the largest hunting territory in the Duck Mountains at over 264,000 acres – an exclusive area which no other Outfitter is allowed to hunt. This is unlike some areas in Manitoba where Outfitters’ allocation areas overlap and are in competition of each other. With this low-pressure prime hunting area, Baldy Mountain Outfitters is able to provide a sustainable harvest of premium trophy and color phase bears.

This area in the Duck Mountains, previously owned by Tom and Debbie Ainsworth of Grandview Outfitters, had a legacy of producing trophy and color phase bears for over 30 years, with many repeat guests. The ideal landscape and virtually no pressure from local hunters also led to high numbers of bears consistently coming to the sites. Baldy Mountain Outfitters now owns and operates from this same area and long-established bait sites, plus has continued to expand its territory.

Our mission is to provide the highest quality of black bear hunting and bear harvesting in the industry while keeping it personal and conserving this rich resource for the future.

Why Us?

  1. We are passionate about bear hunting and providing premium-quality hunts
  2. High ethical standards in service provision and conservation management
  3. Among the highest success rates across North America for trophy class (Boone and Crockett) and color phase bears
  4. Consistently high numbers of bears
  5. Largest outfitting territory in the Duck Mountains of Manitoba
  6. Exclusive Outfitter rights for the hunting area
  7. Professional, experienced and knowledgeable guides
  8. Personable hunts that build relationships
  9. We like to have fun and have fun while we hunt
  10. Always working to improve and responsive to suggestions from guests

British Columbia - Wolverine Ridge Outfitters

Wolverine Range Outfitters

Why choose us?

There are many great outfitters and areas to hunt in BC which makes it difficult to choose one. We feel our operation is among the best for several reasons. It is a very large (2850 square miles), diverse habitat, encompassing the foothills/lowlands of the Omineca mountains in the South as well as a beautiful 30 mile long mountain range to the North.

There is low hunting pressure with high game density and most of the area has not been hunted by the previous outfitter allowing the possibility of being the first hunter into some of this remote country. We customize each hunt based on your preferences and capability. We often see over 10 bears per day in the spring and an average of 3-4 moose per week per hunter during the rut. Our wolverine range has some great goat hunting within a provincial park with 100% success rate over the past 10 years with no other hunters ever seen in that area.

Our work ethic, professionalism, friendly nature, and logistics is second to none. Prior to guiding and outfitting full-time, Ray also worked as a manager in big industry for several years. One thing to consider when booking a hunt is that some guide/outfitters manage the hunts but are not the owners of the business. Ray and Dan strongly feel that being both the owners and operators allows them to be more vested in the company and its success than simply being an employee. It should be a consideration when booking your next hunt.

As an added bonus on all hunts is free fishing and wolf hunting. Our area has some of the best freshwater trout and char fishing in the province and we often see wolves while hunting other species, affording the potential of taking a nice trophy in addition to your primary species hunt.

The whole team is very organized and will take care of all the details, so all you have to do is enjoy your hunt and have fun!

Bear Hunts

Our spring bear hunts are very exciting with numerous sightings per day often in the double digits.  Average harvest size between 6' to 7'.  There is a high density and we take a limited number of hunters affording many opportunities including color phase bears.  Bears will frequent the southern mountain slopes and newer logging cuts, feeding on the fresh grasses, clover and dandelions in the spring.  We know where the good  berry patches are and can put you on some great bears in the Fall as well.  We are also lobbying to return the grizzly hunt in BC.

Matt also offer's trips for non-hunters such as fishing, rafting, hiking, photography and wilderness expedition.
