Successful Black Bear Hunting
144 page large softcover glossy page book. Strategies for bagging your trophy black bear.
With the rebound of black bear populations in North America, interest in big black bears has increased dramatically in recent years. In fact, it has risen to the point that many veteran and knowledgeable hunters now claim that tagging a mature boar is as challenging as tagging a mature whitetail buck - maybe even more so!
Veteran black bear hunter and outdoor writer, Bill Vaznis offers us this comprehensive and entertaining book of how-to information and great hunting stories all peppered with the latest strategies for collecting your next bruin. Generously illustrated with color photos showing all aspects of the sport, this book covers all the basics including baiting, calling, trailing, stalking, still-hunting and tracking black bears. Special sections on reading big bear sign, where the biggest bears live and how to choose the right outfitter alone make this book a must-have resource.

Book Review As Published In Issue of Bear Hunting Magazine by Don Muggli.
This is a large format 8-inch by 11-inch, high quality paperback and it is photo illustrated with 150 high quality photos. Mr. Vaznis is a full-time writer and wildlife photographer whose work has appeared in every major outdoor magazine in North America. The first thing that strikes me about this book is the quality of the photographs. From the front cover to the back cover and almost every page in between is adorned with superb bear hunting pictures. Yes, there are a few dead bear depicted; however, there are many more pictures of free ranging wild bears. Having personally attempted to photograph wild bears (with little success), I fully appreciate the time and effort it took Mr. Vaznis to collect the many outstanding bear pictures.
The pictures draw you in but it is personal stories and anecdotes that make this book special. Mr. Vaznis has been an avid bear hunter for 30 years. He has hunted bears in many areas of the U.S. and throughout Canada. His experience includes many guided and unguided hunts using a rifle or a bow as well as sampling the various methods of taking a bear (spot and stalk, baiting and hound hunting). He does a particularly good job of explaining what to look for in an outfitter and how to work with outfitters for best results. I will not find it hard to reread this book. The authors detailed knowledge of this subject is glaringly apparent; his writing is crisp and lively. For those who dream of a bear hunt, whether for the first time or the 20th; this book will provide an invaluable reference. I give this book a 4 paws out of 4 paws rating.
