Alaska Closes Trail Due to BearsAK Department Of Fish & Game, Bear Hunting Magazine
Juneau International Airport officials have closed the Dike Trail to pedestrians because of "aggressive bear activity."
Ryan Scott, a biologist with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, says officials closed the trail Friday after reports of a black sow and two cubs in the trees between the trail and the float plane pond. He says the sow bluff-charged a person.
Patty de LaBruere, the airport's deputy airport manager, says they've had bears in the area before but it's worrisome for them to be this aggressive.
Scott told the Juneau Empire that the sow may be showing unwanted behavior because of construction activity in the area.
