An Asiatic black bear at the Lincoln Park Zoo in Wisconsin bit off all or parts of four fingers from the hand of a 47-year-old woman on Friday, March 5th after she went past barriers and tried to feed the animal, as stated by the Manitowoc, Wisconsin police.
The woman lost all of her thumb and forefinger and parts of her middle and ring fingers. The woman was taken to a hospital in Green Bay, about 40 miles north of Manitowoc, and later transferred to another medical center.
The woman's boyfriend tried to pry the bear's mouth off her hand and also was bitten. In his case, the bite did not result in the loss of fingers. He was taken to a different medical center for treatment.
Alcohol was a factor with both adults, according to a news release from the police. The couple was at the zoo with the woman's 3-year-old granddaughter, but luckily, the girl was not harmed.
