WITN, Bear Hunting Magazine

Emergency workers used a Marine Corps rescue helicopter to evacuate a hunter attacked by a bear deep in the Hofmann Forest.

The Assistant Emergency Management Director, Norman Bryson, stated the attack happened around 1:30pm Monday afternoon. He commented that two men were hunting and one of them had shot the bear. The bear then attacked the hunter. The other hunter made it out of the woods where he called for help on his cell phone.

The injured hunter has severe lacerations to one of his legs. A rescue helicopter from Cherry Point was brought in to take the victim to Pitt County Memorial Hospital where they have not released his condition at the time of this posting.
