Mysterious Bear Carcass Is 20 Years OldSunHerald.com, Bear Hunting Magazine
ROLLING FORK, Miss. --A dead black bear found dumped last month along a dirt road in the Mississippi Delta was actually a prize from a legal hunt in Virginia about 20 years ago, according to Mississippi wildlife officials.
The remains of the bear were found Jan. 14 near Rolling Fork by a passing motorist. That prompted an investigation by the Mississippi Department of Wildfire, Fisheries and Parks and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
MDWFP biologist Brad Young said this week that investigators determined the bear was not killed in Mississippi. Young said the bear was killed near Danville, Va., in the early 1980s and had been stored in a freezer in Sharkey County, Miss.
