Pennsylvania Early Bear Season Begins

Pennsylvania bear hunters may not realize it, but they are the envy of the rest of the nation.

With a thriving black bear population estimated at 15,000 animals, the past seven years have produced the seven highest bear harvests in state history, including more than 7,200 in the last two years alone.

'It's a remarkable two-year run that speaks volumes about the enormity and stability of our bear resource,' said Carl Roe, executive director of the state Game Commission.

As impressive as the harvest numbers are on their own, Pennsylvania bear hunting also offers an unrivaled combination of quantity and quality.
