The 2nd annual Mathews Catch us if you can Invitational was held in Sparta, WI August 17th and 18th. Even though Mother Nature rained on the parade the event was overall a tremendous success!
Friday's activities began bright and early as Factory Pro Staff shooters, writers and television personalities were placed into groups of four to compete in a Pro-Am style 3d shoot. The competition was set up in ASA format where teams shot twenty targets at unmarked yardages with the top four teams advancing to a final shootoff.
Tim Gillingham, Ryan Leonard, Camella Crites and Steve Allbritain won the shoot and each rode away on an Arctic Cat 650 ATV. Second place went to Jeff Heeg, James McGovern, Bobby Eyler and Randy Siers as they took home Nikon Spotting Scopes. Third place winners Jackie White, Frank Rus, Les Bressler and Kelly Ward received Lone Wolf Tree stands and climbing sticks. The fourth place team consisting of Evan Baize, Holly Pagel, Jason Ladd and Dirt King each received a Blacks Creek Backpack with accessories. The evening ended with a stunning fireworks display and the anticipation of what Saturday held in store.
Although Saturday started off with a dark cloud looming overhead, the shooters were anxious to get the arrows flying as they competed in two individual events; a Genesis shoot for a Bad Boy Buggy and an Iron Buck Shoot with the winner driving off in a fully loaded 2007 Chevy Silverado. It wasn't long before the sky opened up and the rain started to fall, but it didn't phase the Mathews Pro Staff.
Shooters lined up in their respective classes and each class was quickly whittled down to one shooter from each class. The top five shooters consisted of Bart Larson in the Men's Open Pro, Phil Long from Senior Pro, Emory Budzinski for Limited Pro, Jeff Millar for the Media group and Susan Davis representing the Women's Pro Class. The winner from each class was already taking home a brand new Arctic Cat Prowler UTV. With just Long and Davis left it all came down to one arrow. It was Susan Davis that drove away victorious in her shiny, new 2007 Chevy Silverado Truck with Arctic Cat Prowler in tow.
As the rain continued to fall the shooters geared up for one last event; the Genesis Shoot. With no sights or accessories on the bows the event proved to be quite a challenge for everyone! The first and second rounds started out at 10 yards and made quick work of the Pro Staff Shooters. Moving on to the third round with twelve competitors remaining the targets were moved to 15 yards. When all was said and done Ryan Leonard came out on top and cruised home with a brand new Bad Boy Buggy.
The "Catch us if you can" Invitational was a weekend of intense competition and shared enthusiasm for archery, the outdoors, and of course, top of the line bows. At the end of the weekend it was clear that Mathews has world-class representation both on the range and in the field.
