Misguided efforts to eradicate bear hunting in Maine exposed

The representative, who serves on the Maine Legislature’s Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Committee, presents some FACTS about the need for bear hunting in the management effort:

  • Maine’s bear population has increased 67 percent since 1990
  • Main has the largest bear population in the eastern United States
  • Maine’s annual bear-hunt harvest has declined 23 percent since 2005
  • New Jersey forbid bear hunting for a time, but reversed the decision when attacks increased. No attacks were recorded the following year
