NM Bear Euthanized After Found In Trash

New Mexico Dept. of Game & Fish, Bear Hunting Magazine

The New Mexico Game and Fish Department euthanized an adult black bear last week after it was unknowingly dumped into a trash compaction truck. The bear apparently got into a large curbside trash container that was then dumped into the compactor.

The sanitation truck was taken to a Raton, New Mexico landfill where workers saw the bear emerge from the trash pile injured. Injuries to the bear look to have taken place during the time it was in the compactor.

Officials stated that the bear either got into the trash container looking for food and may have been napping at the time the container was dumped into the truck. They are working to find a way to make these type of trash containers more bear-proof.
