A man from Glovertown, Newfoundland was fined $230 CAD on Monday after pleading guilty for discharging a firearm within 300 meters of a dwelling when he shot a black bear last summer in his yard. The man's rifle, which was confiscated during the police investigation, will be returned.

Bears in the town of Glovertown and surrounding communities became a large problem last summer after the town's dump was closed.

Last week, a Sandringham, Newfoundland resident was found not guilty of similar charges after a judge ruled that the man was afraid for his own safety, as well as that of his young daughter.
