Montana Turkey Hunter Encounters Grizzly

The Montana FWP wants to remind those heading out into the backcountry to keep an eye out for bears. One Montana hunter got a big surprise when he encountered a grizzly bear and two cubs on the opening day of spring turkey hunting season this year.

Officials released a statement saying that the man was hunting near the Creston National Fish Hatchery, east of Kalispell, when he saw the bears. He had found a dear carcass and then heard a noise. At this point he looked up and saw the sow charging him. He fired his shotgun at the grizzly, which then took off with the cubs.

State officials did not find any traces of blood from the bear. They used a helicopter to check the area but did not find any sign of the bears. They have set up cameras in the area in case they come back.
