A 38 year-old man from Mississippi was sentenced to three of years of supervised probation and additional fines for killing a black bear in Amite County back in December of 2011.

Federal officials released a statement that the man was sentenced earlier this week in U.S. District Court and ordered to pay $3,000 in restitution to the Appalachian Bear Rescue fund and $10,000 to the state of Mississippi for the value of the bear. He also had to relinquish his GMC truck and $500 for the value of the rifle used to kill the bear.
