Man Recants Bear Hunting StoryCalifornia Dept. Of Fish & Game, Bear Hunting Magazine
A 30 year-old man who was transported Monday by a friend first to the Bald Hills Cal Fire Station and then by ambulance to a local hospital originally claimed to have shot himself in both legs while bear hunting. The injuries were determined to be non-life threatening.
Several hours after his statement regarding having been bear hunting, the man contacted the sheriff's office and recanted his statement. He said he worked on a marijuana grow operation, and was gone for several days. Upon his return Monday, he was confronted by several people, one of whom shot him.
Humboldt County Sheriff's office investigators searched the area of the shooting and found a grow operation was evident and that it supported the victim's story. The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made as of yet.
