Schools Out, Except For BearsAK Department Of Fish & Game, Bear Hunting Magazine
Anchorage police had to kick a cub out of school yesterday after it wandered in an open door of Bartlett High School. Part of the East Anchorage school, home of the Golden Bears, is under construction, so some doors were left open, allowing the bear to get in. School staff evacuated the building while police went inside.
And in typical cub (or teenage) fashion, it knocked over every trash can that had any food in it. Officers banged on doors, and the bear eventually ran outside.
Bear encounters have been abundant in Anchorage this summer; three bears have already been killed, and several people have been mauled.
