One of the Toledo Zoo polar bears has moved to Chicago.

Zoo officials announced this morning that Nan, a 21-year-old female bear, has gone to the Brookfield Zoo, where authorities hope she will breed with that zoo’s male bear, Hudson.

Nikita, born at the Toledo Zoo in November 2006, passes underneath her mother, Nan, during her unveiling to the media in April 2007. Nan is being moved to Chicago for breeding there.

The move was coordinated by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Polar Bear Species Survival Plan.
